2.1First Attempt

This background design was created with a mysterious and suspenseful atmosphere in mind. The spiral staircase perspective helps create a strong sense of depth and tension, making the scene feel dramatic and slightly unsettling. The high-angle composition also gives the impression that the characters are being watched or trapped within the environment, which enhances the suspenseful mood of the scene.

The detailed railings, narrow stair structure, and exaggerated perspective lines were used to guide the viewer’s attention deeper into the scene while creating visual intensity. The interaction between the characters further suggests conflict and mystery, helping the background support the storytelling and emotional atmosphere of the animation.

During Week 7, the lecturer advised me to expand the surrounding background area because the current composition felt too narrow. The lecturer also mentioned that there were too many characters placed in the scene, so one character should be removed to improve the overall balance and readability of the layout. In addition, the top section of the staircase could either be removed or enlarged to create a clearer composition and stronger perspective in the background design.

4.reflection

This project helped me better understand the importance of perspective and composition in background design for animation. Through creating the staircase layout, I learned how perspective lines and camera angles can create depth, tension, and a stronger visual atmosphere within a scene.

During the process, I experimented with different scene arrangements, character placements, and environmental details to make the background feel more dynamic and suspenseful. After receiving feedback from the lecturer, I also realized the importance of balancing composition and spacing within the layout design.

Although the colouring process has not been completed yet, this project allowed me to further develop my skills in layout planning, perspective drawing, and visual storytelling for animation backgrounds.
