Class Summary: Creating a Collage Using Magazines
In this class, we learned how to make a collage using cutouts from magazines.
First, we chose interesting images, textures, or words from different magazine pages. Then, we carefully cut them out and arranged them on a blank page to create a new composition. We used glue to fix the pieces in place and made sure the layout looked balanced and creative.
This activity helped us think more about composition, color, and storytelling through images. It was also a fun and hands-on way to express our ideas.
Lecture
In this lecture, I focused on learning the fundamentals of composition, including key concepts such as the rule of thirds, the golden ratio, as well as framing and cropping techniques.
1.Basic Composition Elements:
Focal Point
Scale & Hierarchy
Balance of Elements
Use of White Space
Rule of Thirds:
The rule of thirds divides an image into nine equal sections by drawing two equally spaced horizontal lines and two vertical lines. This creates four intersection points where important elements can be placed to enhance balance and natural flow. For instance, aligning the horizon with the top or bottom horizontal line often results in a more appealing image.
Golden Ratio:
The golden ratio is a mathematical ratio of approximately 1:1.618 that is widely regarded as aesthetically pleasing due to its harmonious proportions. It is frequently used in design and art to create balanced and visually attractive compositions.

1. Choose and identify your collage's design elements to be cut out and compose it into your own concept & story.
2. Pre compositing your collage's design elements into a composition.
3. Take 3 photo of your collage pre-composition and insert it on the section below. Please use CAMSCANNER apps to take pictures of your collages.
